Cobalt is a practical security-focused desktop operating system forked from OpenBSD.
Reasonably Lightweight — Cobalt takes a zero-tolerance approach to bloatware and in-auditable cruft:
- Features a unique fork of the NetSurf web browser, instead of a heavyweight such as Chrome or Firefox, or an overly limited text-based browser such as Links or Lynx.
- Entirely independent from the FreeDesktop.org, GNOME and RedHat ecosystems: Cobalt does not depend on polkit, dbus or glib.
- 100% written in C. In fact, the entire system is configured to be built using TinyCC. C++ is optional, as are any colossal compiler toolchains such as LLVM/Clang or GCC.
Build for the Desktop — Not just for your server.
- Uses JWM with an Openbox-esque feel
- Excellent codec support provided by ffmpeg
- Extensibility and modification made easy with LuaJIT
